Meet the Artist
Christine Traverson
Christine resides in bucolic Sharon Vermont. She was born in Far Rockaway, New York. She grew up on Long Island. When she was in fifth grade, she decided she wanted to be an artist when she grew up because she struggled so much with academics but found herself skilled in the art of drawing. In Christine's high school years, she and her family moved to Florida where she indulged in as many art classes as possible. After High School Christine followed her passion and obtained a Fine Arts degree at St. Petersburg College in Clearwater, Florida.
While living in Florida, Christine discovered many museums and galleries. The Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida held the most allure for her. Not only had she been impressed with surrealism but also with Dali's ability to move and transform through studying the Masters. During her studies at college, she came to appreciate and associate with Art Nouveau. A couple of her favorite Art Nouveau artists are Alphonse Mucha and Gustav Klimt. The fluid lines, echoing nature left an impression on her. In her twenties Christine moved to Vermont. She began to study and then teach karate. The Japanese culture and arts begin to influence her art, as reflected in the curving and curling branches of the Japanese maples she paints. She associated with the story behind the Lotus Blossom. The Lotus is rooted in the mud and rises above the water clean and fragrant. Thus, the many water lily paintings. Nature is her inspiration.
